After reworking Dorks issue 5, the question became, which way should I continue? Should I move forward and continue the saga with Dorks issue 6 or should I go backwards and rework the first four issues and restructure the story so that future issues make sense.<br />
<br />

I decided to go backwards. Instead of going in order, I started where ever I felt like. Which caused the entire project to stop. I never got to introduce the Idiots gang. I never got to the return of Magnitude. Longitudes quest for the truth. Instead I wanted to redraw the dream sequence from issue 3 where Attitude meets an inverted Tude that condemns him for wanting to be accepted by those that have rejected him. In the new version, I thought it would be better to have a negative version of him condemning him and speaking the harsh truths to Attitude. Also, instead of a generic mushroom companion I substituted him with Happy the Stick, the comic book character that Attitude loves to read. This way, the negative version of himself and his favorite fictional character are both against him, thus leaving him alone in his quest to fit in. Was there ever an issue 1 or 2 that I wasn't aware of?"<br />
<br />
During the summer of 95 I had done two issues for GrubbMaster Graphics. When the project had stopped, I reprinted my stories as individual issues of Razura that I would give out to my friends. Before GrubbMaster Graphics was officially canceled I was already hard at work on the third issue of Razura.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHmJjUO3cop7uYTMvOjDcoZQbohTLL9QPbG_tMFKtLVImLE71rAklOlA-J5Uy5G18iNl2fKALZt-RVjQPgPsO4WKKAwUHXl48lMVEV6XadKC6webr2p9MZbHAOhgf4b_zlSOC7aVTk4s5k/s1600/Razura_3_Prelim.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHmJjUO3cop7uYTMvOjDcoZQbohTLL9QPbG_tMFKtLVImLE71rAklOlA-J5Uy5G18iNl2fKALZt-RVjQPgPsO4WKKAwUHXl48lMVEV6XadKC6webr2p9MZbHAOhgf4b_zlSOC7aVTk4s5k/s1600/Razura_3_Prelim.jpg" height="320" width="260" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My idea for the third issue was to introduce The Black Hole, a character that originally fought Imp in my first notebook comic series. In this version, Imp would be fighting The Black Hole in the sewers where he was hiding from Mr. Kill and his law enforcements. I don't know what the staff was for that Imp is finding but it seemed to be guarded by The Black Hole in the sacred sewers underneath.<br />
<br />
Yeah, not much of a story teller there.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy0-VU1IzhVbJxH4vepQYKDroiELaauFm6g2SdNg3gQxMk9n78kKM6aSnilb_d4TNExeh4DjhkYvr8lTxsfKz7Sa3Mw4mPkXiNYWwo1KyLs9cAlWam0Aca6c5TSRJrvwtkfY9TetoYenG6/s1600/Razura_3_Pencil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy0-VU1IzhVbJxH4vepQYKDroiELaauFm6g2SdNg3gQxMk9n78kKM6aSnilb_d4TNExeh4DjhkYvr8lTxsfKz7Sa3Mw4mPkXiNYWwo1KyLs9cAlWam0Aca6c5TSRJrvwtkfY9TetoYenG6/s1600/Razura_3_Pencil.jpg" height="320" width="249" /></a></div>
<br />
I had the worst time doing things to proportion or even laying out a scene. I would draw the arms and wings from edge to edge of a paper and at times I would even run out of space. These characters are only three feet in height not counting their wings. It was always trivial to me that I could never fit such tiny characters on one page. You can see how I got very lazy in this layout and I had pushed the badguy all the way into the shadows so that I wouldn't have to deal with proportions. Sadly, I didn't hide that horrendous hand of his.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqh0XjepN0WWO2v0AnW7OqZw7dqoblnxCI_s-bq4F9N5kyfJKPEQFC7JQzaoPeETeMkiCsOHtdWwL_WOo4aMp9_sx9TO4knLYsHm8fCOz_Rgs4NagJR-55SMtfh7kWS9M54zAL5Y4Kr9iX/s1600/Razura_3_Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqh0XjepN0WWO2v0AnW7OqZw7dqoblnxCI_s-bq4F9N5kyfJKPEQFC7JQzaoPeETeMkiCsOHtdWwL_WOo4aMp9_sx9TO4knLYsHm8fCOz_Rgs4NagJR-55SMtfh7kWS9M54zAL5Y4Kr9iX/s1600/Razura_3_Cover.jpg" height="320" width="254" /></a></div>
<br />
After having laid out the cover and again, being quick to ink things while I was still in the penciling process, I neglected the logo being at the top. This forced me to put it at the bottom of the cover instead. This time around, you can see that I added another "mystery" element to this one dimensional story by putting weird markings on top of the doorway. The Black Hole's hand still sucks majorly as well. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj2ssujsjFCBmDiuZ20ko0O8pz6xr4FiC-B0PWcKhw_Qj4dyacEXlAJp_Cy13R0oLMPrwOSyj27v2x8vGk385_wLLWwSMHWLAhqd9PPREMr70814l409M2M9MzBUbunvpkIhKvFASCNyBk/s1600/Razura_3_Update.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj2ssujsjFCBmDiuZ20ko0O8pz6xr4FiC-B0PWcKhw_Qj4dyacEXlAJp_Cy13R0oLMPrwOSyj27v2x8vGk385_wLLWwSMHWLAhqd9PPREMr70814l409M2M9MzBUbunvpkIhKvFASCNyBk/s1600/Razura_3_Update.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
In this updated version, I decided to play around a bit with the scene. I took away the door and the dumb writing above it for one. The second thing was that I actually had Imp holding the staff and examining it. I thought this gave it a bit more depth because the other versions seemed to me like he was not allowed to touch it or he was not able to pull it out of the stone. Without him touching the staff it seems odd that The Black Hole would come out to protect it. It seems more likely that if it were removed from its resting place that would cause the chaos that awaits Imp.<br />
<br />

known as Imp. Originally a good guy (then bad then good again) he would
fight the evil known only as Satanic Cat. Satanic Cat was some type of
acronym that I can't remember but that must've been one hell of an
acronym with such a long name like that. Satanic Cat was sorta like
Mumbra, an old person that would transform into a younger, evil being.
Imp would fight him and such but really they were only one page comics
that really, really sucked ass.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJJQoZ5EVBXk0oIlZOrIEfEd-Cx7WT2Z6T3Ao9tlbTcXeUHrByRomlRW7SS8iXyV6fFyd5dKkcEIvKCbP25Lj_oIFkTuBHuVX6-F2R2rqzMWzwcV1qa1S-q7GCe7XQi1XLP3qpSifg_kk/s1600/Imp_1.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJJQoZ5EVBXk0oIlZOrIEfEd-Cx7WT2Z6T3Ao9tlbTcXeUHrByRomlRW7SS8iXyV6fFyd5dKkcEIvKCbP25Lj_oIFkTuBHuVX6-F2R2rqzMWzwcV1qa1S-q7GCe7XQi1XLP3qpSifg_kk/s320/Imp_1.jpg" width="211" /></a></div>
Then Imp became the star of his own comic book. The only page I have a copy of is this one here that I tried to color by hand:<br />
<br />
This
was the classic fight between The Black Hole and Imp. Witty dialogue
as you can see and lots of action. There was no real point to them
fighting. It was just the style at the time. I tried to recreate this
scene for the Grubbmaster Pieces book but it was canceled before the
third story arc was to debut featuring the updated recreation of this
battle.Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-63576798176151040732011-11-17T21:22:00.003-06:002011-11-17T21:28:12.000-06:00Razura SketchesWhile sitting around trying to get warmed up to draw Wolfman, I've been doodling some Razura stuff. This is the long awaited (by me, I don't think I really had any Razura fans) return of Imp, Karloff and Razor in their first 22 page full sized comic book. One day I hope to revisit these guys. It's not a long enough story to warrant an ongoing series so it may come back in the form of a mini series. I hope sometime soon. Until then, here's a look at what could have been.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCwGukpL8USQhOS8Kh0d7Jp9yFMp9Oi3sQJNuKcYWRZ6JXeLEn9s-PrDFWdzxBrQpXbF7VvsgOAeOLjNGK_WvRB0hPDAqlA4tt4V_gw_v8pUTx5PJC4rTvsct0TnMnsm5FIIgSpflQxTWb/s1600/Razura_Cover.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 259px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCwGukpL8USQhOS8Kh0d7Jp9yFMp9Oi3sQJNuKcYWRZ6JXeLEn9s-PrDFWdzxBrQpXbF7VvsgOAeOLjNGK_WvRB0hPDAqlA4tt4V_gw_v8pUTx5PJC4rTvsct0TnMnsm5FIIgSpflQxTWb/s400/Razura_Cover.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657262009027829394" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggnHcSQmqcbAqGWXhybfm-m3mNciJBRD_YKrmVf3-l6H5rVb-sLInLpvVBC_r6-KcoUPORYm7-xWvDYiMI9AzNDlxY5GcdHPfy51JN1lS6fH6YegHcKiTDZpmqlB1d9IJ-lkUTPiMIJtgX/s1600/Razura_1.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 259px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggnHcSQmqcbAqGWXhybfm-m3mNciJBRD_YKrmVf3-l6H5rVb-sLInLpvVBC_r6-KcoUPORYm7-xWvDYiMI9AzNDlxY5GcdHPfy51JN1lS6fH6YegHcKiTDZpmqlB1d9IJ-lkUTPiMIJtgX/s400/Razura_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5657261914879092898" border="0" /></a></div>Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-64400265366731208882011-08-15T17:14:00.006-05:002011-08-15T17:19:59.170-05:00Wizard World 2011<div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1gigeuMV05WLE7glULm9HfEDRQQDcL3G92Gd6gM05b-mwIsXqxxVaglcdpclWQVTxi4bavumQaXkSTKKimZgoHbAkaRsV4ediGUrJ0aR5FiisVnE-vvZUMufL_-syoh2vHU_qZgFLOv0J/s1600/Eric_Martin.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 271px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1gigeuMV05WLE7glULm9HfEDRQQDcL3G92Gd6gM05b-mwIsXqxxVaglcdpclWQVTxi4bavumQaXkSTKKimZgoHbAkaRsV4ediGUrJ0aR5FiisVnE-vvZUMufL_-syoh2vHU_qZgFLOv0J/s400/Eric_Martin.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5641210398738509058" border="0" /></a>This past weekend was Wizard World 2011 and of course I can't go through a con without getting one guest Dorks drawing. This year it comes from Eric Martin whom, strangely enough draw similar to the old Dorks style and his character The Cosmic Dot also resembles them. Eric was very fun to talk to and his are was very awesome. He's got tons of little Cosmic Dot's and there seems to be a very cool idea behind it all. Hopefully he'll have a book done soon.

As per customer request, I've put together a collected book with the first four issues of Dorks. Many people voiced their concerns on buying the fifth issue without the other books to read. Instead of putting issue five on hold until I can redraw the first four issues, I'm doing a special collection of the first original issues which will lead directly into the new fifth issue. It's all totally relettered for an easier read and I've also included the seldom seen short stories. There was a FCBD ashcan given out in 2010 of the two stories but now you can get them if you didn't attend our FCBD 2010 signing. Here's a look at the cover:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPFlww4bLUk6o4lCuIjSTSnXFooiSEjVV_15zqdG_QKO2iMp0M2v6IFNB92RqtvfywIAYBRYwLLHPnlnSQZ9_uRyX1WAVcxZ6ueq6CiV82q5m9ALSn0zvypJ9WAoEyMmWqOh-Po0dKNesC/s1600/Dorks_TP.jpg"><br /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihy7-wViw_2J6eCrOVtjbec0gfCZDcGM3lKODDpAKn7P8sHSyZXfe42FvneEwj-O7SSRclWrUKdrFVaaliliaMdAzfJWUt-GVGlNDFIfevOjrYDa777frKT26KuyQ5sCcBD-Z3_WTswZgy/s1600/Cover.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 282px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihy7-wViw_2J6eCrOVtjbec0gfCZDcGM3lKODDpAKn7P8sHSyZXfe42FvneEwj-O7SSRclWrUKdrFVaaliliaMdAzfJWUt-GVGlNDFIfevOjrYDa777frKT26KuyQ5sCcBD-Z3_WTswZgy/s400/Cover.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634628335351151746" border="0" /></a><br />The cover is of course based on the first cover that was done from the original version of the series and the relaunch (pictured in the background of the new cover). The back cover is a redrawing of the second issue with Latitude on the box. There are new spot drawings inside the book so there will be new material to look for in this book.Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-37014903821284229062011-07-26T10:03:00.007-05:002011-08-07T12:09:44.412-05:00Dorks Vs . . .For a while I was into drawing the Dorks fighting somebody. In these two drawings it was the Mr Men. After these drawings I even wrote a story that went along with it. These were done around the same time that I was doing the Dorks relaunch that never happened. Shocked I'm shure. Alas, enjoy these oddball fights.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjVZUf4bnYMdccDKjSrGSzY7_5bht9SB-D30jzztNQ6r5gl2clea9B6U1d9RTIn3OB82zblZpgw5jpg2D4rrHXixmvllA0G-YZRYpTM8u9-NCinxnd2uEpt8j5WHx0X9HgeZvCSmMlxQhC/s1600/Dorks_vs_Mr_Men.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 259px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjVZUf4bnYMdccDKjSrGSzY7_5bht9SB-D30jzztNQ6r5gl2clea9B6U1d9RTIn3OB82zblZpgw5jpg2D4rrHXixmvllA0G-YZRYpTM8u9-NCinxnd2uEpt8j5WHx0X9HgeZvCSmMlxQhC/s400/Dorks_vs_Mr_Men.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638162162911357826" border="0" /></a>"Dorks vs Mr Men": This one was alot of fun to do. Once again, an incomplete cover but interesting fact (to me). Issue 6 was being worked on in 96. I find this odd just because I can't remember for the life in me when issue 5 came out. I lost the original inside cover for that issue and I don't seem to have any copies at all of issue 5. Also, as you can see, I've been pretty much recreating the same scenario as the first and third incarnation. Another odd fact is that all the Idiots were there. For some reason Beatitude wasn't present in the beginning but he was around at the end of the issue where Fortitude is absent. Ah well. Here are the missing pages uncovered. Enjoy.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOTtQt2w895rtMHxuQ0tG5e6Mkd3-3T5N8pnoG3UFW-Vemhi1nmosJxg8Zqr7pnIfmdNHe3_VuN9R6XL1XYB9DWHC9fepyTz96qsj5o8NFpZljStvt3dc3nwTyg0DrwS8B-ilwBg3mwtWg/s1600/Dorks_6_Cover.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 207px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOTtQt2w895rtMHxuQ0tG5e6Mkd3-3T5N8pnoG3UFW-Vemhi1nmosJxg8Zqr7pnIfmdNHe3_VuN9R6XL1XYB9DWHC9fepyTz96qsj5o8NFpZljStvt3dc3nwTyg0DrwS8B-ilwBg3mwtWg/s320/Dorks_6_Cover.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613442990932520738" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyN1iWXpAIF2L-tJlGaA4e34QGhMYccMJCxrMll2dLAYxsMFQStiWliPcL_H9EnoTb-6R07WVFIwu6v6uYqjC-f2cJYbWwg9YvKlA7rq53msOhTNJOkbh-5MDGLUoa1B6myOUc_eAXJEHf/s1600/page_01.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 207px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyN1iWXpAIF2L-tJlGaA4e34QGhMYccMJCxrMll2dLAYxsMFQStiWliPcL_H9EnoTb-6R07WVFIwu6v6uYqjC-f2cJYbWwg9YvKlA7rq53msOhTNJOkbh-5MDGLUoa1B6myOUc_eAXJEHf/s320/page_01.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613443078672258802" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_N1XJGliX5ymAgtKhaRbKR8iLuEaav885uQwJ2koTAjUmyFNcNnamEP78NwC71SHUBxhHTEVtErITu6cfIVtzQ3lrNIL4t9DbqyXudlaMG4n86rO6Ew9huNLoxqKQlQy-GK1N0ojpOipo/s1600/page_02.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 207px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_N1XJGliX5ymAgtKhaRbKR8iLuEaav885uQwJ2koTAjUmyFNcNnamEP78NwC71SHUBxhHTEVtErITu6cfIVtzQ3lrNIL4t9DbqyXudlaMG4n86rO6Ew9huNLoxqKQlQy-GK1N0ojpOipo/s320/page_02.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613443150057431330" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJDMJCUY7eqI9iVoIwmnpe15FHgP-tRLFT-Xh7tbxzC8BaqwRjxevED-t9pNmKODOU7XabJRSY7MeuUGTsKuJheiKLeewuQX8wZrb8q_q29bAdCWVomzUW_pggq4DqB7fy-AZ-PYdTBNH6/s1600/page_22.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 207px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJDMJCUY7eqI9iVoIwmnpe15FHgP-tRLFT-Xh7tbxzC8BaqwRjxevED-t9pNmKODOU7XabJRSY7MeuUGTsKuJheiKLeewuQX8wZrb8q_q29bAdCWVomzUW_pggq4DqB7fy-AZ-PYdTBNH6/s320/page_22.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613443223055980178" border="0" /></a><br />And just for kicks, here's a look at all three covers next to each other.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1qMKV_QF9T0c5KaZDTHMlh9yXUgYFlh_V_rL63dIFN42pXq3fiS0WnnZFjUb3uu3VqljNPGd3bTWVOlG64c3VhgAoNNlmB33rU0-0a-wP8UOrvm_04l-09Xn_S20M1oJfvrNGtkujmepj/s1600/Three_Versions.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 182px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1qMKV_QF9T0c5KaZDTHMlh9yXUgYFlh_V_rL63dIFN42pXq3fiS0WnnZFjUb3uu3VqljNPGd3bTWVOlG64c3VhgAoNNlmB33rU0-0a-wP8UOrvm_04l-09Xn_S20M1oJfvrNGtkujmepj/s400/Three_Versions.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5613446346407746722" border="0" /></a></div>Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-58746114300920791532011-05-15T11:03:00.013-05:002011-05-15T11:29:57.438-05:00IdiotsFor as long as there has been the Dorks gang, there's been the Idiots gang. No group nor character is complete without a rival of their own and that's just what the Idiots were for Dorks.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix1NLpQhAJm3BgZ_ot5aHlOhUw2duK6LesMLnx-FRCz2xV_IuhwuoAln5KAmSlMwXTurOL30MA2ws7hHGwfqBtu1VpfDzkCrwJsLQYgwJwZzxg7imhwCBiw24I4iGf_byXBthcZQsStelc/s1600/DorksvsIdiots.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 271px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix1NLpQhAJm3BgZ_ot5aHlOhUw2duK6LesMLnx-FRCz2xV_IuhwuoAln5KAmSlMwXTurOL30MA2ws7hHGwfqBtu1VpfDzkCrwJsLQYgwJwZzxg7imhwCBiw24I4iGf_byXBthcZQsStelc/s320/DorksvsIdiots.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606976493501668786" border="0" /></a><br />It started with the three Tudes, Vicissitude, Quietude, and Beatitude. They were the real gang counterparts of the Dorks members. These guys were serious about gang banging and the Dorks were caught in the middle of their turf war. Even if the Dorks weren't on their property, the Idiots would still find a reason to go after them. It's the code of the gang.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivrD-X3nna-kno83Ah3RhKiPMb0cpDJWtIcz2nijEfswoAp1MVSd8AHzRKyIY3B9q9uLz0GtjHuD3HE4QG51hJz-aEzCAaHpDZ0tklRvP0QJWjpQTL21Hsiou_9sEZq2sgTTQzDjHXe-A9/s1600/Dorks_Issue_6.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 235px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivrD-X3nna-kno83Ah3RhKiPMb0cpDJWtIcz2nijEfswoAp1MVSd8AHzRKyIY3B9q9uLz0GtjHuD3HE4QG51hJz-aEzCAaHpDZ0tklRvP0QJWjpQTL21Hsiou_9sEZq2sgTTQzDjHXe-A9/s320/Dorks_Issue_6.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606974224047267314" border="0" /></a>In the Dorks series, the Idiots were always to debut in issue 6, after "The Alliance" storyline wrapped up. "The Alliance" was nothing more then the story of the Dorks gang coming together. Once that was established we were to see the downside to having your own gang. The first cover I drew showcasing the Idiots was very premature. I must've drawn this before I completed issue 2.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFQhaQQBEfthgDOxdkJ_L_nc0u2D4kiuyAem_GKlXC1H3u0L0l1I_zTWswzulq98rBu55ePplN9fHXbziG1T_6k_DvaGiJaAycpF5UsZXTx6B6MzVAR5R_lCYT202oWmSs3bcLV6N-uQKb/s1600/Idiots_1.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 250px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFQhaQQBEfthgDOxdkJ_L_nc0u2D4kiuyAem_GKlXC1H3u0L0l1I_zTWswzulq98rBu55ePplN9fHXbziG1T_6k_DvaGiJaAycpF5UsZXTx6B6MzVAR5R_lCYT202oWmSs3bcLV6N-uQKb/s320/Idiots_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606974515215237170" border="0" /></a><br />And just because I always got ahead of myself, I thought, "Hey, why not give them their own book. Tell their origins. How they got together." That idea only lasted a cover. Speaking of premature, you can see how far ahead I was thinking of this idea since the Idiot Press logo was the original version. The new logo was officially used on Dorks issue 3.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfV74H8WDAaGNBzPgmbysubEEie6s-AOKJJNLMh93EYUcrRLY9uNB5pvPkMwcCwMHsxEe7ExUKk5d0z1pLKtpO3RNhIGpAByY_mVkOAi5dFAw8gxHjHMboJ_ZmCPuIDRvsn8iORo3dCPgI/s1600/Dorks_Issue_6a.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 229px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfV74H8WDAaGNBzPgmbysubEEie6s-AOKJJNLMh93EYUcrRLY9uNB5pvPkMwcCwMHsxEe7ExUKk5d0z1pLKtpO3RNhIGpAByY_mVkOAi5dFAw8gxHjHMboJ_ZmCPuIDRvsn8iORo3dCPgI/s320/Dorks_Issue_6a.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606979995846927714" border="0" /></a><br />Dorks issue 6 was in full swing and being worked on for a while. Sadly, I have a bad habit of jumping ahead and just drawing what I am itching to draw. With issue 6, I only got as far as the completing the first four pages, half way finishing the fifth page and penciling the six page. Yet, I did find it appropriate to draw pages 21 and 22 even though the entire book was still not scripted. I always knew that the first page would open with them in the alley telling Vicissitude about the Dorks, then he would declare his war on them. The ending would be the Idiots about to pummel poor Attitude when Magnitude made his heroic return. Thus, that's all that was really drawn for issue 6.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOvTpWiEjkbxPFV-Z1Jt9K8qmjF8Q-QJpKMJ0134irLPF3z2c0RvE2nNFQujP-BX8WEpzXnw0GcvtYyF6t-8DGH4HmsEVI21ptdR9HT_HT8MUSRVC55NFaqSnQqcSfTkDFPMvE_P5Z_In8/s1600/page_21.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 286px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOvTpWiEjkbxPFV-Z1Jt9K8qmjF8Q-QJpKMJ0134irLPF3z2c0RvE2nNFQujP-BX8WEpzXnw0GcvtYyF6t-8DGH4HmsEVI21ptdR9HT_HT8MUSRVC55NFaqSnQqcSfTkDFPMvE_P5Z_In8/s320/page_21.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606975022692758754" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdt_3baHzByiiVQLQcazgLz81NHWFFYln5dLTOL4hiTdKLMObZRSkXIP0pOEqkAgIQ3KHTgU2dJ_SmDMR7FuSrh6yDz-cL-9SJbmg2b5vChva4nWQJXkszk6Z6cyNq_6j4yMxg7qcx1I4T/s1600/page_22.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 246px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdt_3baHzByiiVQLQcazgLz81NHWFFYln5dLTOL4hiTdKLMObZRSkXIP0pOEqkAgIQ3KHTgU2dJ_SmDMR7FuSrh6yDz-cL-9SJbmg2b5vChva4nWQJXkszk6Z6cyNq_6j4yMxg7qcx1I4T/s320/page_22.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606975093741965266" border="0" /></a><br />And speaking of that first page, here are three versions of that first page. I had always been excited about doing that first page and getting it right that I've made several incarnations of it. The first one does go with that original cover shown above. The second version of page one just came out of nowhere. No cover was done for it, no story was written for it. It just was. The third version of course is what was being done for the series and even appeared in the Dorks collected edition.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQeA6YYUS_8CYZ2znAXsDBuoDtVavUDJ6JpRkj4oJ8-pXJu4dDWr7nwbcY_awOg6tvYmk7xJNG8RNhRqL5VXbsfkWgA_bdCwP4rNgb_P76x4ncqNaZubqgoa6eYe1KWA8qlSn2d70MG-W8/s1600/page_1_take_1.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 238px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQeA6YYUS_8CYZ2znAXsDBuoDtVavUDJ6JpRkj4oJ8-pXJu4dDWr7nwbcY_awOg6tvYmk7xJNG8RNhRqL5VXbsfkWgA_bdCwP4rNgb_P76x4ncqNaZubqgoa6eYe1KWA8qlSn2d70MG-W8/s320/page_1_take_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606974627707321410" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9HFzKAO_7NjRc5exW-EPaK01oqpqkOuMewgJA_9XhTEbuN37HL26PRknQK73XhEmQ8ONy-easSmk-CYyPGwwYoxvvc-ODP28MYR8GvJZxtq9K-f3y_Irowg9WvEROdHFjHWRoOz5NxGsX/s1600/page_1_take_2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 230px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9HFzKAO_7NjRc5exW-EPaK01oqpqkOuMewgJA_9XhTEbuN37HL26PRknQK73XhEmQ8ONy-easSmk-CYyPGwwYoxvvc-ODP28MYR8GvJZxtq9K-f3y_Irowg9WvEROdHFjHWRoOz5NxGsX/s320/page_1_take_2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606974772485116034" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX24xyEXExktdVRF1TuZKMZY2ST7hp9HANIgGsrYNWZnESS8o3ZUua1QM_HixTC5dMyg9jaM6wPsABUFrsGBZR23iuhoBrQEFPI15o-1_xygsvRH0Jw4WqwkJa2Rz6QDdtHNn22vVA6Pqa/s1600/page_1_take_3.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX24xyEXExktdVRF1TuZKMZY2ST7hp9HANIgGsrYNWZnESS8o3ZUua1QM_HixTC5dMyg9jaM6wPsABUFrsGBZR23iuhoBrQEFPI15o-1_xygsvRH0Jw4WqwkJa2Rz6QDdtHNn22vVA6Pqa/s320/page_1_take_3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5606974895481285858" border="0" /></a>Here's to what the next incarnation of the Idiots will be. It was pretty much a spinoff of the Imp comic book. There was only one issue versus the two issues of Imp. In reality, it was more like three issues of Imp since it was a continuing storyline. I came across the xerox of the page. I think I was trying to make an ashcan of the old series and just gave up on it. Vapor had just woken up from a nightmare only to start a real life nightmare. What creative writing...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHDMgt1DYy2sp03yIZ7z_cPufLUrVq5kBUgeC2LMaXzyHt52bd4WeRIMIjPSyBvk3TAhRS9Rzy29j4maOoD-hWnT_HqHQwJzPHQwQQs_ci6TZIqoM_xNaqg0q3gGKAuZCUuDyZObhbUlIt/s1600/Vapor_Issue_1.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 236px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHDMgt1DYy2sp03yIZ7z_cPufLUrVq5kBUgeC2LMaXzyHt52bd4WeRIMIjPSyBvk3TAhRS9Rzy29j4maOoD-hWnT_HqHQwJzPHQwQQs_ci6TZIqoM_xNaqg0q3gGKAuZCUuDyZObhbUlIt/s320/Vapor_Issue_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565042355771369266" border="0" /></a>This next pic is just one of my classroom doodles. It features Imp, Sporn (That weird thing at the bottom that people referred to as a sperm with fangs) I can't remember what I named that fire creature. I have it written down somewhere. Of course Imp is messing around with the Orb that made several appearances throughout the Imp series. In Grubbmaster Pieces it was used to herald the Orb Master that was featured as an interlude.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKcWTOLMYSYEyMLyAryPWMRhtLbYTFPKfoMtoTTUxKYXrMGePphROszo6oZ0-r6ujaJ2ds0txZq3ncMl14Jfkht4cwtHWCLk3wy27RMcj_2Gr2Z5cOnxas0mLhD9OoGq4YSC8BTJlworei/s1600/Imp_Sporn.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKcWTOLMYSYEyMLyAryPWMRhtLbYTFPKfoMtoTTUxKYXrMGePphROszo6oZ0-r6ujaJ2ds0txZq3ncMl14Jfkht4cwtHWCLk3wy27RMcj_2Gr2Z5cOnxas0mLhD9OoGq4YSC8BTJlworei/s320/Imp_Sporn.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5565043115960493426" border="0" /></a>Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-25545077846009577162010-12-24T09:42:00.003-06:002011-06-06T12:32:45.262-05:00Happy Holidays<div style="text-align: center;">Happy Holidays from Instant/ Idiot Press!<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo_cY2bmJ4mNdp970JaAEbTwfrHRSIgGHoBOlQkgAZrhigbqyjgTRs-vpMxRAt3oBhyJEsujn2egqq-JUmeJoA-n5YJIv-Dgtp3RFP1GZo40Yt_4zFCCWtYDmxx-TinpEcx1Yct04OC47G/s1600/BOTW-Holiday-2010.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo_cY2bmJ4mNdp970JaAEbTwfrHRSIgGHoBOlQkgAZrhigbqyjgTRs-vpMxRAt3oBhyJEsujn2egqq-JUmeJoA-n5YJIv-Dgtp3RFP1GZo40Yt_4zFCCWtYDmxx-TinpEcx1Yct04OC47G/s400/BOTW-Holiday-2010.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5615160958007534050" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_j1WS5BpWlwIDzItG8__zSMvA1UMmbmiKUf2y6-SkXzHNBOG6_g8q6jKHi94wQlGvNpdK21SULesa5sHyCJtp7bFH-zXQiMlJEDxiM1uNDYo3xhGCkXNBwWhxTmIqchstF2mEaySFitk-/s1600/BOTW-Holiday-2010.jpg"><br /></a></div>Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-27399590785334508032010-12-01T23:27:00.002-06:002010-12-01T23:31:33.537-06:00James 2099 UpdatedDid a bit of updating on the James 2099 characters. I also did a panel featuring each of the characters that were from the very short comic book. I thought the updated versions came out pretty nice. I pulled out the old 2099 pages and looked at the original cover and noticed that I did it in November.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_tM0OREOAuAlo1Qq0iRtYpLNNG3nbP2xOckpoBfbRo2LQaMkUKdfXVcjwOutTDyom-2RPJiGP24m7zsTLf4uasYhFv06BUKDe97JXPpCURmQ9J2fZg40gYcYq1wPhI9fRMvXeZxvbmQI8/s1600/James_2099.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 244px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_tM0OREOAuAlo1Qq0iRtYpLNNG3nbP2xOckpoBfbRo2LQaMkUKdfXVcjwOutTDyom-2RPJiGP24m7zsTLf4uasYhFv06BUKDe97JXPpCURmQ9J2fZg40gYcYq1wPhI9fRMvXeZxvbmQI8/s320/James_2099.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537411772621136370" border="0" /></a><br />That said, I just wanted to share the short lived, James 2099 story. A favorite of mine even though I only drew it once. Thinking of it now this could be very fun to do. Incorporating an idea that Matt Wendt pitched for Dorks, I thought it would be better suited for James. This idea was of an alternate world where anything goes. Impossible characters appear. Where one of the dorks would be a hero type character. Instead I think it would work with James ala Calvin & Hobbes. While James steals lunches ('ey Boo boo) he could be dreaming of escaping from the bad guys and much more. Enjoy the short lived James: 2099.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6NrulqFfikeGavF1nBx-fxg1JsxS0C0pB_p0t-8f-w6exJWeYL69nf8O9lGWp9U2bbNQvIexDEqHaIDTT39PLg_gsFnnAS7fQoEW5y03HT3AZMjrRZC0MswoAxYwVwEvkLpFRaZWvqrvn/s1600/James_2099_Cover.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 152px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6NrulqFfikeGavF1nBx-fxg1JsxS0C0pB_p0t-8f-w6exJWeYL69nf8O9lGWp9U2bbNQvIexDEqHaIDTT39PLg_gsFnnAS7fQoEW5y03HT3AZMjrRZC0MswoAxYwVwEvkLpFRaZWvqrvn/s200/James_2099_Cover.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537411112663352690" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpBd1P2HCE02wLlLsLpZEBOPDs_ZaABtqsYTikdKx_06urst1Jjqrm0CleH5bZzjQfV5fwgJcd9LxldilQs1rjFM3dtH6cnBeYXGbeYXeggU1UPzPWZJgg9JRw5weRdxONfsROucjeahGL/s1600/James_2099_page_01.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 152px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpBd1P2HCE02wLlLsLpZEBOPDs_ZaABtqsYTikdKx_06urst1Jjqrm0CleH5bZzjQfV5fwgJcd9LxldilQs1rjFM3dtH6cnBeYXGbeYXeggU1UPzPWZJgg9JRw5weRdxONfsROucjeahGL/s200/James_2099_page_01.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537411373562449458" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTN7VuGeSm5tBwd3I81pmaqjyDbAqGpR9R95Cte4vPa6mzNBnp34vNob31xUFjMIz1Rsf2KRNWpLDHj-ctANNIxSYzbdH-S6LoqURDunlTz909eaSmcsk0mTvzz7vD9YtlVSOmeH_dTtPZ/s1600/James_2099_page_02.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 152px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTN7VuGeSm5tBwd3I81pmaqjyDbAqGpR9R95Cte4vPa6mzNBnp34vNob31xUFjMIz1Rsf2KRNWpLDHj-ctANNIxSYzbdH-S6LoqURDunlTz909eaSmcsk0mTvzz7vD9YtlVSOmeH_dTtPZ/s200/James_2099_page_02.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537411591023215538" border="0" /></a>Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-86840340403177173102010-11-05T09:20:00.010-05:002010-11-05T10:29:11.875-05:00James Comics<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglV6EseqXfnq8LW6keWoCgHlY2OzkP-jLTkz9ypNm2rOSJc0xBhe0JKJxe1GEvZeJ4DhsgqsWzz3S6Lxy_w5kR3B_5i390cf27qDWq89ChAHHuawCdVookJE5OBr2JnNLmFge1T-SXuByE/s1600/James.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 197px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglV6EseqXfnq8LW6keWoCgHlY2OzkP-jLTkz9ypNm2rOSJc0xBhe0JKJxe1GEvZeJ4DhsgqsWzz3S6Lxy_w5kR3B_5i390cf27qDWq89ChAHHuawCdVookJE5OBr2JnNLmFge1T-SXuByE/s320/James.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5536087090642041810" border="0" /></a><br /><br />James Comics came from the real life stories of James Silva, a kid my mother used to babysit when I was in high school. I then decided I wanted another drawing done by him and once he was done I was so excited that I walked away without paying for the second one. As soon as I realized it I ran back and gave him the money. I asked him why he didn't stop me and he was like, I dunno. True story I swear.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqb2vg2Tg39O1h4neeRxEdx9oxuS5jf66iN4AAD8f-vtZKfEENEhQdF_wGf0jZ4RR2Yhvuc6BhvJo40ozVWTFrmtT5tdRhYbX_m4P1BM3Hel1UtaM4O4cmohyVEMYRyo4xy_vlyi2R_XKE/s1600/Chris_Giarrusso.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 249px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqb2vg2Tg39O1h4neeRxEdx9oxuS5jf66iN4AAD8f-vtZKfEENEhQdF_wGf0jZ4RR2Yhvuc6BhvJo40ozVWTFrmtT5tdRhYbX_m4P1BM3Hel1UtaM4O4cmohyVEMYRyo4xy_vlyi2R_XKE/s320/Chris_Giarrusso.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512899455725755698" border="0" /></a>This one is fresh and just in from Manuel Preitano. A great time was had and I owe it to some of the most generous people that wouldn't let me stay home and sulk. David Gruba, Matt Wendt and Becky Grutzik were very kind to invite me to the show and hang out with them. A big thanks to them to and of course to my fiancee who wanted to do everything she could so I could have a good time but I'm glad that bills come first.<br /><br />At the show I got to meet a very nice guy named Mike White. He was sitting next to Matt and Becky and he does one of the funniest books I've read in ages. <a href="http://amityblamity.blogspot.com/">Amity Blamity</a>. I advise all to read it and buy his books. Not only does he have a great comic book but he's also a very funny guy in person. You couldn't ask for a better con neighbor at a show. He was nice enough to give me tips on inking, while letting me record him work and he did a great Dorks pinup as well. This piece below was all done in one sitting and he was just engaged in it. He kept asking me "should I do this" and so on and I just wanted to say you've drawn enough as it is but he really just kept going. Thanks again Mike. You were awesome and I hope to meet you again.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtgMM65RwtFCWHkFvpLyT4WsvVkjQBtxO6dW99jqZRhzoHnnKUmdJN0WOTuVeXlM6EOYwTKM_GYXdWAQKuWGUS-q9AwqglTJO90SjYkfpTX86Z4YMRrDv3Pbbpn1CJi8FzUxOUSaxiTXmz/s1600/D-ORKS.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 260px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtgMM65RwtFCWHkFvpLyT4WsvVkjQBtxO6dW99jqZRhzoHnnKUmdJN0WOTuVeXlM6EOYwTKM_GYXdWAQKuWGUS-q9AwqglTJO90SjYkfpTX86Z4YMRrDv3Pbbpn1CJi8FzUxOUSaxiTXmz/s320/D-ORKS.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5508636766754891890" border="0" /></a>P.S. He's also friends with Greg Hyland of Lethargic Lad fame. I couldn't believe that. As if that wasn't amazing enough, he was the one that did the Lil Lethargic Lad strips that were featured in the books. Wow.Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-35231168952413901352010-08-11T00:17:00.005-05:002010-08-11T00:43:25.349-05:00The Fighter Issue 1At one point things looked a bit bleak with Instant Press Comics and it's projects. There was a bit of internal turmoil going on and it's a period that is not really reflected on when we get together. One thing that happened though was that artist Dann Phillips was free at the moment since there was a hiatus on the White Knife project. His talent and art was so great and eye catching to me that it hit me like nothing I've felt before. This could be the guy that could bring The Fighter to life.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijH032xESUFlH2MFcCJBnvFwjVn97Fd-3DdcgL9fhh8Phf4UBgFVp84pqLWqqlq7PBN-LlN5HR_a22QkgQlAzQW8qJgC_Vk8von34aKiLbcsLfvMeKJ4vka1rfRNzO5iuWGW4xZxUQDu-v/s1600/Page_01.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijH032xESUFlH2MFcCJBnvFwjVn97Fd-3DdcgL9fhh8Phf4UBgFVp84pqLWqqlq7PBN-LlN5HR_a22QkgQlAzQW8qJgC_Vk8von34aKiLbcsLfvMeKJ4vka1rfRNzO5iuWGW4xZxUQDu-v/s320/Page_01.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504022160493636674" border="0" /></a>I proposed the idea to Dann Phillips and if anybody knows Dann, you know he gets excited about working on something new. He's always up for a challenge and puts his all into the project. He did prelims on the Fighter and after much nitpicking on my part I was finally satisfied and the ball got rolling.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_LrTHArXLX109D-iWkPspgGz7lCCbc9xRy_bwh7dg9XqacmAWerNcCIKFMIEqAqw3B4WA-tiyrFRTXP3aGyUsgDRg-SGHJQQMAWBxo2rpNmP9hN4HYm0N0bU9SHVXQy9S-mLQNu-Wt-sZ/s1600/Page_10.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 208px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_LrTHArXLX109D-iWkPspgGz7lCCbc9xRy_bwh7dg9XqacmAWerNcCIKFMIEqAqw3B4WA-tiyrFRTXP3aGyUsgDRg-SGHJQQMAWBxo2rpNmP9hN4HYm0N0bU9SHVXQy9S-mLQNu-Wt-sZ/s320/Page_10.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504023649390610914" border="0" /></a>As my usual self, I was lazy on supplying the drawings for The Masked Avenger and The Perfect Gentleman when it came time to do the story. To my surprise though, Dann pretty much did the designs in the style that I had sketched out, only good. When I saw page 5 I knew I was working with the right person. The action sequence there was just jaw dropping. considering that the script called for, "Big action sequence" Dann did a great job of putting two and two together. I left it all up to him and he delivered.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhouY6t8Lh1IHcxw1a8BjzcuaY5cZd2nncYX1NQIqoi35dL1ZQr-huB9fTYUSzIoRTSt4wwDv-cNv8kU3pK-vub4Cc8WKsOQkC3h18glhlMnlwq7iGuUc2BykyrPn3xYme5DswL5u8Amzlj/s1600/Page_05.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 208px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhouY6t8Lh1IHcxw1a8BjzcuaY5cZd2nncYX1NQIqoi35dL1ZQr-huB9fTYUSzIoRTSt4wwDv-cNv8kU3pK-vub4Cc8WKsOQkC3h18glhlMnlwq7iGuUc2BykyrPn3xYme5DswL5u8Amzlj/s320/Page_05.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504022372965030306" border="0" /></a>Things didn't progress much after issue one due to me. I once again got too caught up in how I wanted to tell the story and how long it would be until The Fighter came on to the scene. I do hope to return to this project one day and I hope that Dann will be available to do the artwork again. The coat was from a Gambit action figure and the mask is hand sculpted. I forget the other components but all in all, it's a great representation of The Fighter.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCix_jQlT5zKJct_h-oeagu048n45wlYMmpI1M-pgbGEcya2SuTWzG1MUADek4KDQK89tTlWdgBtzHA865q2INkwFCPfwHEAVSaynUuRGsMUrOpf3KiOxFA4qiHQt0NsytQXC62UI-x-ld/s1600/IMG_3701.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCix_jQlT5zKJct_h-oeagu048n45wlYMmpI1M-pgbGEcya2SuTWzG1MUADek4KDQK89tTlWdgBtzHA865q2INkwFCPfwHEAVSaynUuRGsMUrOpf3KiOxFA4qiHQt0NsytQXC62UI-x-ld/s200/IMG_3701.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502136742808941874" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwxlEpZrWBNn0uffQCPbN2ej29xVBQbpcT-J0a6TY3epCDGJWJMLSJBLNGCkdgptndpfYKCqS4l-l_bjr1HDr_Op4rLnYdqWSTva8xWXXtisBEiCPjKodrdvaJSRlRAII_Ot5iUG0CKkVt/s1600/IMG_3702.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwxlEpZrWBNn0uffQCPbN2ej29xVBQbpcT-J0a6TY3epCDGJWJMLSJBLNGCkdgptndpfYKCqS4l-l_bjr1HDr_Op4rLnYdqWSTva8xWXXtisBEiCPjKodrdvaJSRlRAII_Ot5iUG0CKkVt/s200/IMG_3702.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502137250092037010" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUPA8gAzBwXOYOtV4DIxzmZa-It03SXSIr8QD0KshuoE8bLIjYu38EEUq5AsgfcaWQCjfb4f30KcGZ75xgfdZjbav1xxyhyphenhyphenjB6Ip4t1cMI9WpUmijah050wyYb3_OZDPNdoYfcmPTzx6Zt/s1600/IMG_3703.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUPA8gAzBwXOYOtV4DIxzmZa-It03SXSIr8QD0KshuoE8bLIjYu38EEUq5AsgfcaWQCjfb4f30KcGZ75xgfdZjbav1xxyhyphenhyphenjB6Ip4t1cMI9WpUmijah050wyYb3_OZDPNdoYfcmPTzx6Zt/s200/IMG_3703.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502137342915902274" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzhlo6cdGP98aDL35NSxyC6KOXIZgsODlBxtu49lLoY_EDUxiOtw6d6H9PzcBnNtAi-2sqR9Laa2lgy93UyoJq7tOD_ttVN8WtvB9XrCW0yj9RcE0RA80em31Mch0QbFPRsk-Ddab3gdmb/s1600/IMG_3704.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzhlo6cdGP98aDL35NSxyC6KOXIZgsODlBxtu49lLoY_EDUxiOtw6d6H9PzcBnNtAi-2sqR9Laa2lgy93UyoJq7tOD_ttVN8WtvB9XrCW0yj9RcE0RA80em31Mch0QbFPRsk-Ddab3gdmb/s200/IMG_3704.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502137420929619698" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7YXX-JHZJL0b8VX8L8KU-TEtvg4zcToEHvvQ_-SB-Vy0Rj0W9s1lQH00Eoe7UK9uQ-TUVBv0JRQjbkpldip1FV8AEn-tixT6O-OvTpxQXvX7Cq3_Yt_ccULcG1TErLz8_4lLrSGG2sYxO/s1600/IMG_3707.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7YXX-JHZJL0b8VX8L8KU-TEtvg4zcToEHvvQ_-SB-Vy0Rj0W9s1lQH00Eoe7UK9uQ-TUVBv0JRQjbkpldip1FV8AEn-tixT6O-OvTpxQXvX7Cq3_Yt_ccULcG1TErLz8_4lLrSGG2sYxO/s200/IMG_3707.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502137593326539426" border="0" /></a><br />Here's an update from Stan on the different parts of this figure:<br /><br />body: Silver Surfer action figure<br />coat: Gambit action figure<br />staff: Gambit action figure<br />mask: TMNT Casey Jones action figure<br />hat: Mr. Fixit (Grey Hulk) action figure<br />brick wall diorama base: Punisher action figure<br />blood, sweat, and tears: Stan Tanaka<br /><br />And Stan's awesome recollection of that glorious nite:<br /><br />I remember Christmas night when I drove over to your house with this Fighter action figure.<br />You were smashed drunk when you answered the door, and barely recognized what the figure was.<br />I brought it over in a shoebox, and you probably thought I bought you a pair of Nikes.<br />True story, dude.<br />You were plastered that night.Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5690874536782945767.post-34907652030270565302010-08-02T08:43:00.010-05:002010-08-02T14:10:32.504-05:00The Fighter Guest Artist Part 2There isn't too many guest artist pin ups of The Fighter to share. Thus he was to fight crime on the streets and clean up the city. Somehow, he turned into a character out in space. It lead me to create two alternate versions of Fighter to explain how he was an Earth hero and a Intergalactic riff raff. As Mr Kill's right hand man, he was to go out and take care of any and every task. The Fighter has a rich history in my head and I've always wanted to get his own book off the ground. Due to my indecisiveness on how to tell the story I've never been able to get the book going. The most I've accomplished was a first issue that was never released. The first issue was drawn by Dann Phillips (Kreetor, Starbomb). I'm thinking of getting something done once I've finished the latest issue of Dorks. Here's a look at the original drawing of The Fighter from 1992:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiwPs_rlQ3W2jCFmK6zu4dRtSeeVCyCfc-pDwAUVZ-KFiUqzc4n86iCgFFrRjmEJPyWrQNZirp05SLEZ6Iw8OxVOV2rLA7TVPr8262jb8Cjedtshy2y68L-4utBSKm3iwGXn3Xqh9h5WYH/s1600/Original_Fighter.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 228px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiwPs_rlQ3W2jCFmK6zu4dRtSeeVCyCfc-pDwAUVZ-KFiUqzc4n86iCgFFrRjmEJPyWrQNZirp05SLEZ6Iw8OxVOV2rLA7TVPr8262jb8Cjedtshy2y68L-4utBSKm3iwGXn3Xqh9h5WYH/s320/Original_Fighter.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495754569558710802" border="0" /></a> The longest running joke at Instant Press is that when Dave Gruba was publishing, he asked me to do Dorks for his anthology zine. At the last minute I changed my mind and decided to give him something else. The Fighter was the first thought but sadly, I was unable to draw humans. How could I draw an action comic when I could barley draw people? Thus Rebels: Rulers of Razura was given to him. Imp was the first original character I had created and with him being an alien it was easier to draw. At the end of the second installment, there was an appearance from The Fighter. He was the right hand man to Mr. Kill:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix_613nxBpUJSwtOx1SFT2nBT3aTi6qLNMUT7m5TO-toBIjdr_tXpGrIAKwlpVz1lTpJPsE9of-1gUj8uuu1aIFuCNkiOqK1SYk1bG3wEO9rfZ4AK4YVS71szdpljHM7Fa-3ZAw0sgeayp/s1600/Razura_2_10.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 241px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix_613nxBpUJSwtOx1SFT2nBT3aTi6qLNMUT7m5TO-toBIjdr_tXpGrIAKwlpVz1lTpJPsE9of-1gUj8uuu1aIFuCNkiOqK1SYk1bG3wEO9rfZ4AK4YVS71szdpljHM7Fa-3ZAw0sgeayp/s320/Razura_2_10.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495755774731903058" border="0" /></a>With the cancellation of the third Grubbmaster Pieces The Fighter never made it as a full appearance. The ending of our running joke is that Dave was unable to steal The Fighter from me because he was never mentioned by name. Guess it's only funny to us.<br /><br />After things started falling apart at Instant Press with several of our projects I was feeling a bit down. As I was thinking about what to do about the situation I started thinking about my own projects. I got the idea almost right away to ask Dann Phillips to work on The Fighter. The idea excited me to no extent and once I saw Dann's drawings on him it exceeded all expectations.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4fssGk_z8m8lEbpTP2L_FT7Cz8NWVx_BfW8m40rMC_KByol_A72yQlEKAHsL1mXrCcHCTEtW9i1fQPW6477QdWBhtqOBFyTTdHv9nbC6JdDn-0uQTOPayRbOciUW8sWNn_m538ov3d1p2/s1600/Dann_Phillips.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 93px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4fssGk_z8m8lEbpTP2L_FT7Cz8NWVx_BfW8m40rMC_KByol_A72yQlEKAHsL1mXrCcHCTEtW9i1fQPW6477QdWBhtqOBFyTTdHv9nbC6JdDn-0uQTOPayRbOciUW8sWNn_m538ov3d1p2/s200/Dann_Phillips.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495761990360303730" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLPJ6Z9oNRUSjy9OZwP5JbTOMfRY9zIMOnL99u1qdSPPClYoQ1EdxUyP47Reh1NjZZYy0ELHZDuQr93EwssB4Fpw1f-MCq2g5oW7fZ9VbNdEtJBq1_Co3s6pXmK45RB7V4wlDTDLrYQSzt/s1600/Dann_Phillips2.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 174px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLPJ6Z9oNRUSjy9OZwP5JbTOMfRY9zIMOnL99u1qdSPPClYoQ1EdxUyP47Reh1NjZZYy0ELHZDuQr93EwssB4Fpw1f-MCq2g5oW7fZ9VbNdEtJBq1_Co3s6pXmK45RB7V4wlDTDLrYQSzt/s200/Dann_Phillips2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495762230236509970" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU7qtkqyMnX0B1o_lNgEz6n2XSif0r3BPbWleTvr7QmbQs7ASI3-eP3EUwXO0me1IU_7sMYo1eXJqTAl6tbz_eklNwHg_W10egCjKFGdzx1wXY4biwuVxKYZLuAADwsAt0U6L-B-MUa1qt/s1600/Dann_Phillips.jpg"><br /></a><br />One day I hope to get this back on track. I hope to have the same artist work on the project as well. Until that happens, I'll have to deal with a movie coming out by the same name.Idiot Press Comicshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16906272428272542007noreply@blogger.com0
